The Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) on Saturday named Zeeshan Abbasi as the new captain of the national team for two years. PBCC, Chairman Syed Sultan Shah on Saturday told newsmen that Zeeshan (partially Blind-B2) will lead the national blind cricket team while Imran Sheikh will be his deputy (vice-captain).
"Zeeshan's first and foremost task will be this year's World Cup to be played in December at Bangalore, India," the chairman said. The chairman further said it was time for a change in the leadership of the national team. "We want to bring in young talented players so that the team becomes formidable in future," he said. Before Abbasi, Abdul Razzaq had led the team. Abdul retired due to an injury fracturing his foot during the India series this year. However the newly elected captain Zeeshan was a happy man on Saturday on being named as captain of the national team.
"It was my dream to lead the team," said Zeeshan. He further said that he will try his best to bring this year's World Cup trophy home. "I have been taking guidance from our former captain Razzaq and will implement them in the mega event," Zeeshan said. Zeeshan, was named the fastest bowler of 2006 World Cup and he represents Islamabad in the domestic tournaments.
