Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan on Friday conferred various civil awards on 27 prominent personalities in recognition of their services in relevant fields on the eve of Pakistan Day. In this regard, a ceremony was held at Darbar Hall of Governor House, which was attended among others by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Provincial Ministers, Advisors, high civil and military officials and others.
Ishrat-ul-Ibad, on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari, conferred five Pride of Performance awards, two Sitara-e-Quaid-e-Azam and 15 Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on prominent personalities of the province. Those who were conferred with Sitara-e-Imtiaz include Professor Dr Khaild Mohammad Khan (Science), Mushtaq Ahhmed (Police), Khushbakht Shujaat (MNA), Agha Nasir (Literature) and Sharmila Farooqui (Advisor to Chief Minister on Media).
While, Hafiza Dr Farzana Suleman (Education), Sahira Kazmi (Art), Lutfullah Khan (Literature), Mohammad Aman Sarshar Siddiqui (Literature) and Zahida Hina (Journalism) were conferred with Pride of Performance awards. Sitara-e-Quiad-e-Azam was conferred on Sister of John Verchmans and father of Robert Mccullon.
Similarly, Karam Khan Kaleri (Agricultural Research), Nafees Ahmed Khan (Sitar Nawaz) Sakina Samon (Art), Kazim-u-Din Pasha (Drama Production), (Late) Ustad Feroze Gul ( Music), (Late) Syed Amir Imam (Drama Producer), Mohammad Zaki Taji (Qawali), Abdul Fatah Malik (Literature), Dr Fatima Hassan (Literature), (Late) Niaz Hamayuni (Literature/Poetry), Dr Dur Mohammad Pathan (Literature), (Late) Roshan Atta (Drama), Mohammad Yahuya (General services), Akhter Yunis (General services) and SSP Police Mohamad Aslam Khan (general services) were conferred with Tamga-e-Imtiaz. Sources said that Sindh government had recommended 40 names for the said awards but federal government approved only 27 names for the wards from Sindh.
