Malir Former Senior Superintendent Police Rao Anwar once again failed to appear before Director Inspector General (DIG) and the inquiry committee on Monday, regarding the 'extrajudicial murder' of Naqeebullah Mehsud.

This is the second time that the SSP has not appeared before the committee, as earlier Anwar had refused to show up after being summoned by DIG at 11pm on Sunday.

Anwar has alleged that a conspiracy is being hatched against him and that he will not appear before any committee where there was no chance of being given justice, local media reported.

Meanwhile, Naqeebullah's family will be appearing before the committee today. On Sunday, the police had assured Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector-General of Police that Naqeebullah’s family will be sent to Karachi under full security so that they could appear before the committee.

SC takes suo moto notice of Naqeebullah’s killing in ‘encounter’

Naqeebullah, a 27-year-old native of Waziristan, was killed along with three other suspected terrorists on January 13, in an alleged encounter with a police team headed by Anwar. However, Naqeebullah's family claimed that the deceased was innocent and was killed in a 'fake' encounter.

Relatives of the deceased, residing in D I Khan, claimed that Naqeebullah was picked up by personnel in plain clothes from Sher Agha Hotel in Sohrab Goth on in the wee hours of January 3 and he was missing since then.

A three-member inquiry committee, headed by Counter Terrorism Department Additional Inspector General Sanaullah Abbasi, was formed by Sindh IG Allah Dino Khawaja. On IG's orders, Anwar was also removed from his post on Saturday.
