Directorate General of Special Education (DGSE) is negotiating with Japan International Co-operation Agency (Jica) for conducting a fresh survey of persons with disability in the country. Director General Special Education Mutafain Kazmi told APP on Sunday that there is no proper record of persons with disabilities in the country and a survey would help to allocate resources for facilitating such people.
He said number of persons with disabilities has increased after earthquake and other calamities in different parts of the country but without determining exact number of such people, it is not possible to draw a strategy or take any practical steps for them.
The Director General further informed that Federal Directorate of Special Education (FDSE) has planned to equip schools of special education working in Federal Capital with modern facilities in few months.
"The High Schools would be upgraded to Secondary Schools and Secondary Schools would be upgraded to Higher Secondary School to facilitate special persons", he added.
He maintained that before devolution 30 centres around the country were running under FDSE but now as the provincial centres were handed over to provinces, only eight centres are left under FDSE. "All these centres would be upgraded within three months to ensure provision of better academic facilities encouraging more children with disabilities to become active members of society", Mustafain Kazmi informed.
