Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that there is a need of converting the existing brotherly ties between Pakistan and Turkey into trade and investment. He said that the agreement signed between the Punjab government and Istanbul Municipality in the solid waste sector is the first step towards this long journey.
He said that a university would be set up in Lahore with the collaboration of Turkey for which the Punjab government will provide land free of cost. He said that time has come that businessmen of Turkey, Pakistan and Punjab should enhance their bilateral relations which will be beneficial for the people of both the countries.
He was addressing an inaugural ceremony of Pak-Turk Business Forum under the aegis of Pak-Turk Businessmen Association at a local hotel, here on Saturday. Honorary Consul General of Turkey, Mian Tajammul Hussain, Members of National and Provincial Assemblies and a large number of Pakistani and Turkish investors were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that religious, cultural and historical ties exist between Pakistan and Turkey.
He said that Turk brethren never forget to mention the co-operation extended by the Muslims of subcontinent during the freedom movement of Turkey but Turkey is such a sincere friend of Pakistan which has supported it in every hour of trial. He said that the assistance extended by Turk government, people and investors to Pakistani brethren during earthquake and flood cannot be forgotten.
He said that hundreds of investors of Turkey left their families and celebrated Eid ul Azha with their Pakistani sisters and brothers during flood which was unprecedented in the history of the country. The Chief Minister said that he salutes the love of Turk brethren with Pakistan and Pakistani people.
He said that the hearts of the people of Pakistan and Turkey throb together and these brotherly relations should be visible in every walk of life. He said that Turkey has made an exemplary progress with the untiring efforts of leadership of Turkish Prime Minister Tayyab Ardagan and the people that is why Turkey has become 15th strongest economy of the world. He said that exports of Turkey are 114 billion dollars while Pakistan's exports are 20 to 25 billion dollars.
