Surviving some anxious time, Faisalabad Wolves defeated Afghan Cheetas by 13 runs to grab their second win in group "B" in the Faysal Bank T20 Cup Cricket Tournament at National Stadium on Thursday evening. Afghan Cheetas were well placed after 15 overs with 35 required in the last five overs. But three superb run outs and tight bowling by Faisalabad bowlers restricted the visitors to 132-9 in 20 overs.
Chasing 146 for victory, Gulbodin Naib gave Afghan Cheetas a great start with whirlwind knock of 62 in 42 balls with ten delightful boundaries and two massive sixes. But with his departure Wolves gained the control. Wicketkeeper Muhammad Salman, who toured West Indies with the Pakistan team earlier top-scored with 26-ball 32 with four boundaries after they won the toss and elected to bat first.
In earlier match, Rawalpindi Rams produced another superb display on Thursday by defeating Multan Tigers by five wickets to strength their claims for a place in the semi-final of Faysal Bank T20 Cup from group 'B' at National Stadium here. Medium pacer Muhammad Ramiz snapped-up four wickets for 24 runs and opener Awais Zia blasted a quickfire half century to propel Rawalpindi to easy win.
Multan Tigers collected 151-9 in 20 overs. Rawalpindi Rams in reply reached the target with eight balls to spare. Hard-hitting Awais Zia slammed 52 off just 30 balls spiced with eight boundaries. Tahir Mughal struck five fours and six in his 37 after facing 27 deliveries.
Earlier on Wednesday night, Rawalpindi Rams overpowered Afghan Cheetas by six wicket in nail-biting finish enjoyed by few thousands crowed with majority of Afghans. In a pressure situation, Umar Amin made a fighting 43 in 38 balls hammering four boundaries and hoisting one six and Hammad Azam in a master blaster style hit two towering sixes in 14-ball cameo 24 to seal victory with seven balls remaining.
