Pakistan, while reaffirming its commitment to the International Intellectual Property (IP) System, called for further efforts at global level to develop an international IP System that is balanced and is flexible in meeting the needs of countries at different levels of development.
This was mentioned by Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi, Chairman Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan who is leading the Pakistan delegation to Annual General Assembly of World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) being held in Geneva, Switerzerland during September 26 to October 5, 2011.
According to a press release of the Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan issued here on Wednesday, the Chairman, IPO encouraged WIPO to increasingly engage in its efforts to develop national IP strategies that reflect the level of development of a country, and technological capacity. During a statement to the WIPO General Assembly, Afridi appraised the gathering of National IP authorities from numerous countries about efforts undertaken Pakistan Intellectual Property Organisation to overcome the challenges and develop a strong and dynamic IP System in Pakistan.
Earlier, in a meeting with Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation, the Chairman IPO informed the Director General about the developments in Pakistan in the IP field. He appreciated the role of WIPO in bilateral co-operation and capacity building of IPO Pakistan's human resource. The DG assured Afridi of WIPO's continued support to Pakistan.-PR
