CDGK cleanliness week begins today

Administrator Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed has said City District Government Karachi (CDGK) is starting a cleanliness week and spray campaign in the city from Wednesday (today). Addressing a press conference at Civic Center on Tuesday he further said that the first phase of cleanliness and fumigation drive will begin from six towns including Keamari, Baldia, Lyari, Saddar, SITE and Jamshed Town.
He said that the people and the government would have to fight collectively for eradication of mosquitoes. With the help of heavy machinery of City District Government Karachi (CDGK) all major drains of the city would be cleaned and the garbage collected and lifted in all these towns would be shifted to landfill sites. He said jetting and sucking machines were used to clear the sewerage lines in the city after recent rains.
The administrator Karachi said that the cleanliness week has three phases. Besides the cleaning of storm water drains to be cleaned with heavy machinery and fumigation will also be held in all six towns in the first phase. The Health Department would also distribute posters and leaflets containing useful information about dengue virus and preventive measures. He said that a dengue ward had been set up in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. A special dengue unit was also established at Sindh Government New Karachi Hospital and Sarfaraz Rafiqui Shaheed Hospital.
