PSO receives extortion threat

Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has received a telephonic call of threat asking for Rs 220 million extortion. According to the sources in PSO, the company, which has been receiving terrorism threats for the last six months, has recently received a call of extortion threat asking to make payment of Rs 220 million.
They said the administration of the company had entertained a call from one of the militant wings of a banned outfit. They said the caller had given a two-day deadline to pay the said amount and threatened it of dire consequences if the demand was not met. Moreover, the sources said, the caller had also said that fuel supply of Nato forces engaged in the war against terrorism in Afghanistan would be disrupted.
Replying to a question, the sources said the company had taken all the possible security measures to avert any untoward situation, adding that an application in this regard was also moved to the Home Department, SP office and concerned police station.
When contacted, SHO Frere police station Ishaq Lashari confirmed that the company has received threats from one of the militant wings of a banned outfit. He said that the GM security of PSO had submitted an application in Frere police station. He said the application revealed that the company had been given a two-day deadline (Thursday and Friday) the militants to pay Rs 220 million.
He said the police department had made all security arrangements across the building and added that heavy contingent of police, rangers and BDS officials were deployed at the spot. Moreover, he said the police department had learned that the call came from Waziristan, one of the most troubled areas of the country. He further said the company, which has so far not lodged an FIR in this connection, might register the same after its board's meeting any time soon.
