President Asif Ali Zardari is likely to inaugurate the Islamkot International Airport in the last week of September or in the first week of October 2011, sources told Business Recorder on Tuesday. The President, who came directly from London to Karachi, had chaired many meetings on various issues at Bilawal House on daily basis.
Zardari's purpose of stay in Karachi was to oversee the rescue and relief activities in 21 out of 23 districts of the province where recent rains have affected about 8 million people. Besides, President Zardari was also getting briefings on the development projects.
Sources said that the President is willing to inaugurate the International Airport of Islamkot. So it's most likely that he would do this job in the last week of September or in the first week of October 2011. Sources in Coal and Energy department said that though construction work of airport would continue for many months more but initially a plane can be landed over the runway.
The construction work of international airport of Islamakot had been started in May 2011, which is near Thar coal project. The purpose of constructing this airport was to facilitate the foreign and domestic investors, sources said. With functioning of this airport, the work on Thar coal project would be accelerated further, they said.
