A two-member bench of Supreme Court comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmani Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the reports submitted by Karachi police in compliance with interim order in suo motu case on law and order situation in Karachi.
The bench also summoned Advocate General Sindh, Inspector General Sindh Police, CCPO and DIGs of Karachi to appear before the court on Wednesday. It may be mentioned here that Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took suo motu notice of law and order situation in Karachi on August 22 and constituted a larger bench for hearing of the case.
The bench comprising Chief Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali, Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmani, Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ghulam Rabbani completed the hearing of the case on September 15 and reserved the judgement.
The court also passed an interim order and directed the Additional Inspector General Police (AIG) Sindh, Saud Mirza, to instruct all the four Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Karachi to ensure that there is no incident of extortion in their respective areas. The court also ordered that police should inform the court in writing about the progress in cases against criminals on daily basis.
