A motorcycle bomb killed at least five people and wounded 28 others at a market selling CDs here on Monday, officials said. "We have received five bodies and 28 wounded people from the blast site," Doctor Rahim Jan, who works at Peshawar's main government hospital, told AFP, adding that there was one woman among the dead.
KP government minister Bashir Bilour confirmed the death toll and told AFP at the hospital that police had informed him that the bomb was probably planted on a motorcycle. Bomb disposal official Hukam Khan said the 10-kilogram (22-pound) bomb was attached to a motorcycle and was detonated remotely.
"The bomb was affixed to a motorbike and detonated with a remote control," Khan said, adding that the blast damaged 30 shops with 20 of the shops completely destroyed. Peshawar police chief Imtiaz Altaf told reporters at the scene of the blast that "the target was the CD market."
Jalalud Din, a 35-year-old lawyer, who received head injuries from the blast, said he was buying sweets for his children. "There was a huge blast as I was buying candies for my kids. I lost consciousness after my head struck a wall," Din said. Nobody immediately claimed responsibility for the attack but Taliban militants have bombed music shops in several cities and towns in the past, saying there is no room for music in Islam.
