Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is planning to launch campaign against the government for what it called the govt reluctance to comply with the judgements of the Supreme Court, resulting in confrontation between the executive and judiciary, it is learnt.
"PML-N leadership is eyeing closely the situation and is concerned over the confrontation that the present government has started with the higher judiciary," said a source in the party. He said the PML-N leadership could think of utilising all options. PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif had led a long march with other political parties, lawyers' community and civil society in March 2009 to get the deposed judges of the superior courts restored.
The PML-N leader, who did not want to be named, said the long march was not only aimed at restoring the judges, but also ensuring the independence of the judiciary and for the purpose the party could invite other political forces to join hands with PML-N in the anti-government drive, which has not been finalised as yet. But the decision of any such campaign and the extent of the protest movement would be taken once the central committee of the party is formed; said Asim Khan, PML-N central media cell head while talking to Business Recorder. He said the central committee would be formed in next few days while newly-elected President Mian Nawaz Sharif would chair an important meeting in this regard on Saturday.
