Many parts of Orangi Town remained tense on Thursday after a passenger bus and a van of a private TV channel came under attack, leaving several persons injured. Following the killing of a rickshaw driver in sector 6-E of Orangi Town, armed assailants started indiscriminate firing on a passenger bus at Qasba Colony, leaving five persons injured.
25-year-old Mohammad Arif Khan, son of Aurangzaib Khan, a rickshaw driver, was shot dead at sector 6-E of Orangi Town. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities. Police said the victim was the resident of Frontier Colony Pirabad and hailed from KP. After the killing, tension engulfed several parts of Orangi Town - Qasba Colony, Bukhari Colony, Kati Pahari - where armed men resorted to firing and forced shopkeepers to pull down their shutters.
Later, a passenger bus (W-55) come under armed attack by over a dozens miscreants near Bacha Khan Flyover, leaving five persons namely Mustafa, Mohammad Nasar, Farhan, Shabbir son of Jamal injured. Police shifted the injured to Qatar Hospital and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for treatment. Following the violent incidents, armed clash erupted between two groups, which led to closure of all commercial and social activities in these areas.
A van of a private TV channel was also set ablaze near Kati Pahari. Police said the team of a private TV channel, which was on its way for coverage, came under armed attack near Kati Pahari. They said that miscreants fired multiple shots on the van and then set it on fire. They said the crew was provided protection by police.
