CHICAGO: Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures ended fractionally lower on Thursday, following declines in soybeans and corn, traders said, but worries about freeze damage in the US Plains winter wheat belt lent underlying support and buoyed K.C. winter wheat futures.

CBOT March soft red winter wheat settled down 1/4 cent at $4.27-3/4 per bushel.

K.C. March hard red winter wheat ended up 1-1/4 cents at $4.26-3/4 a bushel while MGEX March spring wheat fell 2-1/4 cents at $6.19.

Forecasts called for temperatures to fall below zero degrees Fahrenheit (minus 18 Celsius) early next week in Kansas, the top US wheat producer, cold enough to damage dormant wheat plants.

Ahead of the US Department of Agriculture's weekly export sales report on Friday, analysts expected the government to report weekly wheat sales of 250,000 to 550,000 tonnes.
