Punjab Healthcare implementation: Chief Justice LHC disposes of petition

Chief Justice (CJ) Lahore High Court Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry disposed of a petition seeking directions for implementation of Punjab Healthcare. Commission Act 2010, after the provincial government assured to allocate the funds for this commission. An additional advocate general Punjab assured that the government would implement this act till September and allocate fund for this commission to provide free health care.
CJ disposed of the petition with observation that if it was not done, then the petitioner could move a contempt application. Muhammad and Ahmad, a public interest litigation company, through its chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddique, have moved the petition. Counsel submitted that the act was passed in 2010 but still it was not implemented. He said that neither the Punjab Health Commission was constituted nor appointments were made as per this law, therefore, hospitals were running affairs as per their own will. Azhar submitted that during the last 62 years no institution is in place to monitor and regulate working and efficiency of the hospitals and clinics on private and the public side which led to rendering the medic-care system in the country an industry wherein these hospitals and clinics don't shirk playing with the life of the citizens.
