End to killings of Baloch leaders, activists: BSO-Azad urges right activists, media to play role

The woman wing of Baloch Students' Organisation (BSO-Azad) on Monday urged the civil society, print and electronic media and human rights organisations to come forward for highlighting the grim conditions of the most backward province, Balochistan, in a move to end the killings of Baloch leaders and students.
A representative of the student's women wing, Bano Banri Baloch expressed concerns over the killing and abduction of Baloch leaders and students in Balochistan during a press conference held at Karachi Press Club. She claimed thousands of Baloch leaders, students and peasants had been abducted, killed and many were still missing, saying no one was there safe from the law enforcing and intelligence agencies.
She lamented the killing of central joint secretary of BSO, Waja Shafi Baloch, who was first abducted and then tortured to death. She said Shafi's body was defaced and bearing torture marks. She said the people had now become more familiar to witness such defaced bodies on a daily basis in the province.
Bano Banri said BSO's senior vice chairman, Waja Zakir Majeed had been missing since June 8, 2009, who was abducted from Mastung area of the province, whereas the family of the abducted Balochi people were continuously on hunger-strike for their recovery.
She said media and human rights organisations continued their silence on excesses against Baloch people in the country, which she said, was a "criminal negligence". She also urged the international community to take notice of increasing incidents of killings and abduction of people in the province.
