Almost 300 operations were postponed on Saturday at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) due to acute shortage of water. Dozens of patients were also shifted to Civil Hospital, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and other medical centres.
According to the sources, the JPMC is facing water shortage for the last one week due to which patients, doctors and paramedics have faced immense problems. Several operations were postponed on Saturday except some emergency deliveries, which required surgeries. There are 28 different wards and around 1500 beds at JPMC.
JPMC pays a lot of money under the head of bills and despite paying bills, water is not supplied properly, the sources said adding that the patients also buy water from out side. When Assistant Director Administration of the hospital Chaudhary Muhammed Akram was contacted he confirmed that operations were postponed due to water shortage.
