The world's largest single train urea plant, Engro EnVen, has finally declared the achievement of Commercial Operation Date (COD) effective June 24, 2011. Engro Corporation on Friday announced that its 100 per cent subsidiary, Engro Fertilisers Limited, has declared the achievement of COD of its new urea plant effective from Friday.
According to a notice sent to Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) this new plant is capable to produce 1.3 million tons urea per annum. The plant has been satisfactorily producing on-spec urea at expected production level considering the gas shortage currently underway, it added.
Analysts said that it's a historic movement when the world's largest single train urea plant, Engro EnVen, finally comes to life with achieving commercial operation date. The plant is currently receiving 80mmcfd gas against an allotted supply of 100mmcfd. At current levels, the plant is producing 3,467 tons of urea per day.
Engro Fertilisers will now be equipped with additional supply of urea if no further mishaps on the gas supply façade. In addition, new supply will help satisfy the country's ever growing demand for urea and discourage excessive imports of the commodity ahead. It is expected that new production will bring down the retail prices at dealer level as well. Currently urea prices in the domestic market is at the level of Rs 1,500 per bag.
