Screening, survey of Capital begins

Islamabad Police have started screening and survey of the Federal Capital, which might help the Police to bring the crime rate in the city to the lowest ebb.
Due to current law and order situation, Islamabad Police decided to conduct fresh survey round the Capital City aimed at getting first hand information about the tenants or others residing in different areas and forms have been introduced in this regard to know about their background, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan here on Tuesday.
Khan directed the officers and officials of Islamabad Police to make the exercise a success. While comparing data of crime rate in the month of June this year after start of the survey with the corresponding period of last year, it was revealed that auto-theft and burglary cases in the city declined during this month, as compared to the corresponding period of the last year.
A total of seven murder cases, seven attempt to murder cases, 16 hurt cases, seven dacoity cases, three night burglary cases and 16 theft cases have been reported in the various areas of police station only during June, while 12 murder cases, 11 attempt to murder cases, 29 hurt cases, 18 dacoity cases, nine night burglary cases and 18 theft cases were registered in the corresponding period of the year 2010.
Similarly, the recovery of arms and narcotics is also higher in this month as compared to the similar period of last year due to successful vigilance and survey. Following the directives of IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan, the SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan said that city will be made more secure. He said that notables of the community are being involved in the process and Security and Vigilance Committees in various police stations have been activated to ensure success in obtaining accurate information. Khan said it is the prime responsibility of the police to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens and activities of anti-social elements should be curbed for relief to the citizens.
The SSP directed to maintain high vigilance at police pickets and conduct strict checking of suspects. He categorically asked all SHOs to launch massive crackdown against those involved in running gambling den, immoral activities or selling narcotics in their respective areas. Arrest of criminals involved in such heinous crimes must be ensured, he maintained.
