The Punjab Government will spend an amount of Rs14.5 billion on the execution of different developmental projects aiming at improving the school education sector during the fiscal year 2011-12. Raja Anwar, Chairman Punjab Education Foundation stated this while presiding over a meeting at his office to improve school education sector.
Representatives of Punjab Education Foundation, school education department and members of non-formal sector attended the meeting. Meeting reviewed the pace of progress of school sector to achieve the goal of 100 percent literacy in Punjab.
While giving a break up of developmental budget for the school side, Raja Anwar said that Rs2 billion have been provided for distributing laptops among intelligent students, Rs1 billion have been earmarked for the provision of science labs in one thousand secondary schools while 515 elementary schools will also be equipped with computers to give IT education to the students. A sum of Rs450 million will be spent on it, he added.
Raja Anwar further said that Punjab Government plans to convert one thousand high schools into model schools. This project will be completed with an amount of Rs1 billion. Similarly, Rs3 billion have been earmarked for the provision of missing facilities in schools.
