Human Development Foundation (HDF) has started desilting of 22 water courses in Southern Punjab which were blocked by the floods last year. The project has been initiated with the collaboration of Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO)' in the areas including Union Councils (UC) Abad Pur, Kot Karm Khan, Rajan Pur Kalan, Dhandi, Shah Pur, Nawaz Abad, 264-P and Mohib shah.
Talking to APP here on Sunday, an official of the foundation informed that the project will be completed in four months and is being implemented in co-ordination with On Farm Water Management Department (OFWMD). He informed that local communities are also mobilised to ensure their participation in activities that are carried out for cleaning the water course lines. "HDF is mobilising local communities to form Water Users Associations (WUA) and get the task of desilting done through them", he said.
In total, 18 watercourse lines have been surveyed, demolished and uprooted whereas five watercourse lines are near completion in the UCs of Abad Pur, Kot Karm Khan, Nawaz Abad and Mohib Shah, HDF official said. Concluding, he said that the project will have a great impact in helping the local communities regain and develop their irrigation capacity.
