As many as 207 prisoners were released from Camp Jail Lahore on Saturday when Inspector General of Prisons Punjab announced three months remission for prisoners involved in minor offences on the directions of Lahore High Court Chief Justice, Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry.
Member inspection team (MIT) of LHC, Sardar Ahmed Naeem alongwith two additional MIT Khakhan Babar and Ashtar Abbas and District and Session Judges (D&SJ) Lahore Mujahid Mustaqim visited Camp Jail on Saturday. About 175 prisoners involved in minor offences, granted special reversal in sentence by MIT of LHC while 32 others who benefited by the three months remission were about to complete their jail terms.
The 32 inmates securing release were from amongst those who benefited by remission granted from IG prisons. The prisoners walked out of the jail gates in the presence LHC officers who advised them not to indulge in any crimes in future.
About 70 he inmates housed in others jails will also benefit from the three months remission by the IG prisons Punjab. Later, the LHC officers inspected the jail's kitchen, hospital, various barracks. The officers found that cleanliness arrangements and quality and quantity of food for inmates was satisfactory. The jail doctors informed the LHC officers that in the outdoor of the jail about 500 prisoners are checked daily at the hospital and they are also given medicines.
The jail's doctors also told the LHC officers that laboratory, X -Rays, ultra sound and ECG facilities are also available for the inmates. The judicial officers were informed that a project of Release Educational and Vocational Centre (REVC) has also been established at the jail with the support and collaboration of an NGO and it is proving fruitful. The delegation also visited barrack for prisoners involved in narcotics cases and found overall arrangements good and satisfactory.
