Federal Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik took serious note of theft of over 5,000 passports from Karachi and ordered the authorities concerned to constitute a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe into the matter. The Minister has ordered the Director General of the Immigration and Passports to cancel all the passports immediately, saying that he needs compliance report of the order in 24 hours, informed sources in Interior Ministry revealed to this scribe on Friday.
As many as 5,634 passports were stolen from the office of Karachi Travel Agent Association few days back, which has caused serious security concerns in the country, they said. They said that the Minister for Interior directed the investigators to look into the security aspects of the matter and involvement of the concerned staff who was the custodian of the passports.
