Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch and Deputy Secretary General Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha called on Punjab Governor, Sardar Latif Khosa on Wednesday and expressed their concern over the delay in the appointment of regular vice chancellors in some leading universities in the province.
The JI leaders stressed upon the Governor to ensure in his capacity as the Chancellor, the appointment of VCs, on merit and proposed that ad hoc appointments on these posts should be from senior most Deans.
The Governor told the JI delegation that the delay in this respect was due to the failure of the Punjab government to submit summaries, and said he would see to it that all the appointments were made on merit and in line with rules and regulations.
The JI delegation also drew the Governor's attention to the deprivations of the South Punjab and called for removing these in accordance with the constitution and the law.
The JI leaders also underscored the need for holding fair, free and transparent elections on the basis of computerised electoral lists.
The Governor said that the PPP had learnt a lot from the past experiences and it would make every effort to hold free and fair elections. The JI leaders appreciated the removal of the D G Rangers and the Police chief in Sindh under the Supreme Court orders and said that such a noble tradition should be maintained in future.
