At least four students received bullet wounds in an armed clash between two student organisations at Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) on Tuesday. According to details, the armed clash sparked at around 11AM between Pakhtoon Student Federation (PSF) and All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation (APMSO) at FUUAST that left four persons including two passers-by and a member of PSF organising committee namely Fida Hussain Kakar injured.
The injured ones: Rameez, 17, son of Qadir Baloch, Wahid son of Jan Muhammad and ASI Ahmad Ali son of Muhammad Ali were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital while Fida was transported to Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) for treatment. After this incident, scores of PSF workers reached LNH and resorted to aerial firing. They held the paramedical staff, visitors, doctors and the administration staff hostage at gunpoint and maltreated them. They also blocked the road for vehicular traffic for half an hour. Following the said incident, heavy contingent of police rushed to the LNH and dispersed the protesters after successful negotiation.
SHO New Town police station Rahim Shah said that some 25 to 30 protesters barged in LNH and held the staff and visitors hostage to express resentment over the said incident. He said the protesters, who completely destroyed the security cameras and the furniture of the hospital, were dispersed when the police intervened into the matter. No arrest was made and the case in this regard was also not registered till filing of this report. Meanwhile, the administration of FUUAST announced to close the campus for two days.
APP adds: The teaching and examinations at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Campus of the Federal Urdu University for Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) will remain suspended on June 15 and 16. This was announced by FUUAST Registrar Professor Dr Qamar-ul-Haq here on Tuesday.
