ISLAMABAD: A public prosecutor Thursday informed an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Islamabad that there was solid evidence against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s chief Imran Khan for instigating protesters toward violence during the sit-in of 2014.

Imran Khan had committed violation of Section 10 of Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), he contended.

ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjamand picked up four cases for hearing against PTI head related to the attacks on buildings of Parliament and PTV, Senior Superintendent of Police Asmatullah Junejo and illegal use of loudspeaker during the sit-in of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 2014.

Imran Khan and his counsel Dr Baber Awan appeared before the court.

During the hearing, the Secretariat Police apprised the court that Imran had joined the investigation and he was no longer an absconder.

Counsel for accused, Babar Awan argued that they had already challenged the jurisdiction of the ATC in above cases and requested the court to decide that matter first before proceeding with the case.

However, the public prosecutor argued that there was solid evidence against the PTI chief of instigating supporters towards violence, which is in violation of Section 10 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The court then adjourned the hearing until December 11.
