An accountability court resumed on Tuesday the corruption hearing against deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

During the proceedings, NAB witness Malik Tayyab Ahmed, the employee of a private bank recorded his statements. Two other witnesses Mukhtar and Umer Darz were also summoned by court.

Judge Muhammad Bashir heard the statement from Ahmed, who told the court that on June 13 2015, a cheque worth Rs12 million was issued to Maryam. On November 15, a cheque worth Rs28.8 million was also issued to her in the same year. He informed the court that Sharif had also issued a cheque worth Rs19.5 million to Maryam on August 14, 2016, local media reported.

Nawaz Sharif’s request for one week exemption from attendance accepted

Sharif and his children’s counsels, Khawaja Harris and Amjad Pervez Bhatti, appeared before the court on Tuesday. Both Sharif and Maryam did not appear before the court as they had been granted exemption from appearance. The two departed for London on Tuesday morning.

Captain (retd) Safdar, however, had appeared before the court on Tuesday morning and asked for an exemption from hearing for 15 days. He requested to be presented by Advocate Faisal Irfan, local media reported. Later, he exited the court.

The Avenfield and Flagship Investments references hearings was then adjourned till December 11, a local media reported.
