PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Monday strongly condemned terrorist attack on Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) and offered Fateha for the victims of the incident.
The matter was raised in the house by Nighat Aurakzai of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on a point of order. She said that during visit to a hospital, she met a student who told her that he had locked a terrorist in his room after snatching his gun.
Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had also endorsed the arrest of a militant, but now the KP government said that all the terrorists, who attacked the ATI, were killed, she added.
She asked as to why the arrested terrorist was killed as he could have given leads to reach the mastermind of the attack.
Speaker Asad Qaiser, who was presiding over the house, said that Nighat Aurakzai had broken a big news, asking whether it was true that the student had locked a terrorist.
Nighat replied in the affirmative, again raising a question mark over the killing of all the attackers. Syed Jafar Shah of Awami National Party said terrorism was a serious matter and called for an in-camera discussion over the issue. He also called for implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) in letter and spirit.
Parliamentary Leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) Sardar Aurengzed Nalota said terrorists were still active and targeting educational institutions, schools and mosques. He demanded constitution of a house committee to probe the incident.
Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao of QWP said many elders, children, and mothers had sacrificed their lives in the war against terrorism, but the menace had not yet been eliminated.
The law and order situation in Afghanistan directly affected Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he added.
Sherpao stressed the need for unity among all the political parties against terrorism and also called for an inquiry into the incident.
Speaker Asad Qaiser asked Sherpao to submit a adjournment motion in that regard.
Mufti Said Janan of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) said it was not only the war for Pakistan Army, police, politicians or clerics but for the entire nation to unitedly face the menace.
Fakhr-e-Azam Wazir of PPP said KP was the front-line province in the war against terrorism and asked the federal government to provide it increased resources for fighting the menace. Parliamentary Leader of ANP Sardar Hussain Babak said the country had been suffering from terrorism for last 45 years.
The law and order situations in Pakistan and Afghanistan were interlinked, he added.
Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi, while winding up the debate, said the KP government strongly condemned the terrorist attack.
The Pakistan Army and the KP Police had taken prompt action and all the terrorists, who had attacked the institute, were killed, he added.
Aizazul Mulk Afkari of Jamat Islami said that the agents of RAW, MOSAD and other intelligence agencies were destabilizing Pakistan.
Senior Minister for Local Government, Inayatullah Khan called on the KP inspector general of police to brief the house about the terrorist attack.
