The unscheduled and prolonged load-shedding in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad is badly affecting the life of citizens besides damaging their electric and electronic appliances. Before holy month of Ramazan there was a set time and duration of load-shedding in every area.
But after end of Ramazan no proper schedule of power outage has been announced by Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) and unwarranted power breakdowns have commenced all over the country. There is no uniformity in the timing and duration of the load-shedding in different areas and the duration in some areas is two hours a day, in some four hours and many areas are witnessing more than six hours load-shedding. Besides damaging the appliances it has badly affected the study schedule of the students. It has also affected the small and cottage industrial sector of the area badly.
Sudden power breakdowns are also damaging electronic and electric home appliances including computers, televisions, refrigerators, irons, microwave ovens and tubes and bulbs.
There is no power outage in many VIP areas in Islamabad including Ministers Colony, Diplomatic Enclave, Pak Secretariat, Prime Minister's Secretariat and its employees' colony, Embassy Road, and F-5; and in areas where Punjab, Balochistan, NWFP, Sindh, Kashmir and Northern Areas houses are located.
There are sectors in F-6, F-7, F-8, G-6, G-7, G-8, Blue Area, I-8, H-8, E-7 and its adjacent areas where load shedding timing is more than two hours a day. But Bara Kahu, I-9, I-10, G-9, G-10, Sabzi Mandi have more than six hour long load shedding.
Gulistan Colony, Jinnah Park, Chaklala Garrison and Chaklala Scheme, GHQ, Lal Kurti, Military Hospital, R A Bazar are VIP areas of Rawalpindi Cantonment are facing just two hour or less load shedding while Saddar, Chota Bazar, Gowalmandi, Tipu Road, Kola Center, Bank Road, Railway Station, Peshawar Road, Westridge are facing two to four hour load shedding and remaining area of Cantonment and Rawalpindi city are facing unwarranted six hour long load shedding.
Every day, power supply is suspended in different areas of Rawalpindi without any prior announcement. According to the IESCO Spokesman, IESCO has to save about 561 MW of electricity every 24 hours, as per quota given by National Power Control Centre (NPCC) Wapda for IESCO. To meet this demand IESCO must have load shedding of one hour eight times a day. However load shedding duration can be increased or decreased as per requirement in over populated areas.
He further said that the IESCO customers can get load shedding programme from IESCO help line 118 or Chief Executive IESCO Complaints and Monitoring Cell IESCO Head Office on toll free No: 0800-25250 or their Sub Divisional Complaint offices whose numbers are already given on their electricity bills.
