Sialkot district government has decided to introduce modern agriculture technologies for enhancing the per acre yield of various crops in Sialkot district, said District Nazim Sialkot Muhammad Akmal Cheema.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said that well-knitted plan was being initiated for tracking the agriculture sector on modern and scientific lines for attaining maximum output of crops in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district.
Akmal Cheema said that under the programme, special attention was being accorded to effective agricultural research, improvement of irrigation system and ensuring the sufficient availability of quality seeds in the district. The green houses would be set up at Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district, he revealed. Akmal Cheema said that during current fiscal year 67 watercourses, of which 50 watercourses in canal areas and 17 in Barani areas, would be completed in the district.
To set up agriculture laboratory, three million rupees had be set aside, while seven million rupees had been earmarked for the establishment of veterinary centres in the district, he disclosed.
Akmal Cheema said that work on seven ongoing livestock schemes costing Rs 5.87 million was in full swing and more funds amounting to Rs 3.167 million had been allocated during current fiscal year for the completion of schemes.
The District Nazim said that special attention would be accorded on repair and reconstruction of roads costing Rs 154.1 million and under the programme 47 schemes would be completed under district programme, while 12 roads would be completed through grants.
Akmal Cheema said special attention had been accorded on the improvement of means of communication in the district because the means of communication was vital for the development work in every sector. Under the programme, the initial development work on widening and improvement of Sialkot-Head Marala road costing Rs 340 million had been initiated, while the work on construction of a ring road would soon be undertaken for streamlining the traffic system in Sialkot, disclosed Sialkot district Nazim.
Apart from this, special attention had been accorded on repair and reconstruction 122 roads in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district and this development programme would be accomplished at a cost of Rs 1.22 billion.
Cheema said that construction work on Sialkot-Lahore motorway costing Rs 20 billion would be carried out soon and its completion would help reduce the travelling distance between Sialkot-Lahore. The Sialkot district Nazim further revealed that Rs 55 million were being spent on widening of BRB Canal Bridge near Daska City.
The completion of the project would help ensure the smooth flow of traffic on Sialkot-Daska-Gujranwala section and the project would be completed in stipulated period, he added.
He said that under the programme special attention had been focused on adopting effective agricultural research, improvement of irrigation system, and ensuring the sufficient availability of quality seeds as well as on setting up green houses at Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district.
Akmal Cheema said that all Nazims had been directed that they should keep an eye on standard of construction work and material in their respective areas and the contractors would be bound to produce quality certificates for the payment purposes from the concerned Nazims.
