The legal community and the civil society has expressed anguish over Pemra's show cause notice to the independent private TV channel Aaj over talk shows on the judicial crisis.
In a joint statement, Vice Chairman Pakistan Bar Council, Ali Ahmad Kurd, President Supreme Court Bar Association Munir A Malik and former President SCBA Justice Tariq Mahmood (Retd) described the show cause notice as "an attack on the freedom of expression and independence of the press in the country".
They said that the show cause notice was violation of Article 19 of the constitution that says that every citizen shall have the right to freedom of speech and expression and there shall be freedom of the press. The Executive Director of Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (Pildat), Ahmad Bilal Mehboob was also highly concerned.
