Wheat futures at the Chicago Board of Trade were strongly higher early on Friday in step with surging corn and soybean futures, traders said. At 10:04 am CDT (1504 GMT), CBOT wheat was up 1 to 5-1/2 cents per bushel. July was up 5-1/4 at $3.37 per bushel. Local traders were the main buyers and ADM spread 500 September/December, pit sources said.
Wheat traders said the strong rally in soy was the focal point early Friday. Hot and dry weather, especially in the key eastern Midwest corn/soy state Illinois, was boosting those markets sharply higher.
