Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz are taking keen interest in rapid development of Thar desert area, and soon the people would witness an era of rapid progress and prosperity in this remote area.
He stated this while speaking as chief guest at a reception hosted in his honour by Deeplai Memon community here at Qasimahad on Friday evening.
The chief minister said he was informed only last Friday that the prime minister had called upon the Planning Commission deputy chairman to finalise the development schemes of Tharparkar district, and it is hoped that the work on these schemes would he started shortly.
He pointed out that when President General Pervez Musharraf took over as the chief executive, he, in his address, promised to the nation that the remotest districts of the country, including Tharparkar would receive priority in development, and since then the process of development of Thar district particularly in terms of communication network is being carried out at a fast pace.
He said the President and the prime minister desired retention of the National Assembly seat of NA-229 Tharparkar-I, however, due to some unavoidable circumstances, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had to vacate it, but the premier personally came to Tharparkar, and expressed his thanks to the people, who elected him with a thumping majority from this constituency, and announced a series of development projects for the area.
The chief minister said the education plays a key-role in rapid development of any society, and the present government is striving for improving the literacy rate by providing quality education to the future generation. Unfortunately, however, the teaching community is not responding accordingly. He, however, made it clear that the Sindh education authorities have adopted a strict policy to streamline the education department.
Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim lauded the services of Dr Mohammad Sajjan Memon in providing health services to the people of Sindh particularly the people of rural areas of the province. He also expressed his thanks to Deeplai Memon community for providing unconditional support to Arbab family during the previous elections and by-election and also in the forthcoming by-election.
Earlier, Deeplai Memon Community President Dr Mohammad Sajjan Memon highlighted the services rendered by the Arbab family for the welfare of the people of desert area and its strong relations with other communities, including the Memon community residing in the area.
Sajjan Memon expressed pleasure that remotest area of the province had received the honour of having Sindh chief minister from here through the election of Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim as the chief executive of the province, who is fully aware of the socio-economic condition of the people of the desert area.
Earlier, the leaders of Deeplai Memon Community presented a series of traditional gifts of Sindhi Ajrak and cap to the Sindh chief minister.
