old_notes_copyHYDERABAD: An elderly woman possessing 170 notes of Rs500 denomination of Pakistani currency protested here on Monday outside Hyderabad Press Club against the note's expiry on September 30.

Zetoon Begum, 70, who works as a house maid, claimed that she is a widow and had collected Rs85,000 to purchase dowry items for her two daughters.

"I am illiterate, we neither have television at our home nor could I read newspaper," she said. "I was unaware of the expiry date for Rs500 note."

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had earlier notified demonetization of Rs500 note from September 30, 2011.

Zetoon appealed to the SBP Governor to consider her plight and allow the exchange of old notes she possesses with the new Rs500 notes.
