World Bank boosts aid for Horn of Africa famine: US

world-bank-blue-logo_400_thumb307_WASHINGTON: The World Bank will nearly quadruple its aid for the drought and famine-struck Horn of Africa to $1.9 billion, US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Saturday.

In a speech to the World Bank's Development Committee, Geithner said the US supports the move, yet to be officially announced, by the World Bank's International Development Association to increase its funds for the region, where more than 13 million people are directly in need of assistance according to the United Nations.
