Sindh Madresstul Islam to be upgraded to level of university

KARACHI: The Sindh Madresstul Islam (SMI) would be upgraded to the level of a university.

This was stated by Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy, Pir Mazhar- ul- Haq.

He was speaking as chief guest on the occasion of the 126th anniversary of SMI here on Thursday.

The minister said that a bill for the upgradation of SMI to the level of a university, would soon be got approved from the Sindh Assembly.

He stated that every effort would be made for the resolution of problems of the SMI College.

Pir Mazhar said that the staff working on contract basis would be regularised as per the law.

He informed that after the passage of the 18th constitutional amendment, education has become a provincial subject.

The minister said that on the directive of President Asif Ali Zardari, the government of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is undertaking efforts for the promotion of education.

He pointed out that seven percent of the NFC award is being spent on education.

The minister urged the students to concentrate towards the acquisition of knowledge.

Principal of SMI Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), Prof. Anwar Ahmed Zai, and Adviser to the Sindh Governor, Yousuf Jamal, also expressed their views on the occasion.
