NEW YORK: US President Barack Obama met Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday in New York, hours after a suicide bomber in Kabul assassinated Afghanistan's former leader Burhanuddin Rabbani.

Karzai was due to cut short his trip to the United Nations General Assembly shortly after his meeting with Obama, to return home after the killing of Rabbani, who was leading the government's peace talks with the Taliban.
