MIRPUR: According to the preliminary unofficial results gathered from the returning officers concerned of the district late on Sunday night, three candidates of PPP including former Prime Minister Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, President PPP AJK Abdul Majeed and Afsar Shahid won the elections to AJK Legislative Assembly from the electoral constituencies LA-3 (City Mirpur-III), LA-2 (Chakswari Mirpur-II) and LA-1 (Dadayal Mirpur-I) respectively.
Sultan defeated his rival candidate Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf with a clear margin, according to the preliminary results.
Similarly, Chaudhry Abdul Majeed won the election with a margin defeating his nearest rival candidate Captain (Retd) Muhammad Sarfraz of PML (N) AJK.
According to the preliminary results, Afsar Shahid of PPP won the election defeating his closest rival Khalid Masood Chaudhry Advocate of Awami Ittehad.
Results of the elections to constituency LA-4 (Khari Sharif Mirpur) is awaited where close contest, between PPP's Chaudhry Arshad Hussain and independent candidate Aveena Rukhsar, was held. Counting of the votes cast in this constituency LA-4 (Mirpur) was underway when last reports came in.
Unofficial results of all the four seats will be released by the District Returning Officer concerned on Monday, since the counting of votes exercised through postal ballot will be held on Monday morning, the DRO office sources told APP on Sunday night.
