imageKARACHI: The latest report on Apple, according to a publication in the US Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday, is that the company has filed for a patent titled “Electronic device with wrap around display.”

Allegedly, the patent describes a display that will be capable of being rolled and unrolled around the body of device. When wrapped around the entire frame, it would allow for a lot more space for display of icons, keys and shortcuts. Meanwhile, the gadget would carry no physical buttons and every surface would be a seamless glass screen. Imagine following your favorite YouTube channels on an all-screen iPhone or iPad!

The patent suggests that it would include two flexible transparent displays, stacked on top of each other, thus making a virtual reality impression akin to 3D. In order to determine what part of the screen should respond to input, the device will detect touch usage via facial recognition and cameras.

Competitors Samsung and Nokia have not come up with wrap around displays yet. Steve Jobs would’ve been proud!

On the downside, imagine the skyrocketing price and battery drain of Apple’s next-generation iOS if it is to have such a display.
