Justice Tariq Pervez sworn in as Caretaker CM KP

APP49-20PeshawarPESHAWAR: Former Judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice (Retd) Tariq Parvez here Wednesday took oath as fifth Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Governor Khyber Pakthunkhwa Engr Shaukatullah Khan administered oath to Justice (Retd) Tariq Pervez as caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa during an impressive ceremony held here at Governor House.

Chief Secretary Khyber Pakthunkhwa Ghulam Dastagir Akhtar, Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Justice Dost Muhammad Khan, Home Secretary Muhammad Azam Khan, Health Secretary KP Muhammad Ashfaq Khan and others senior offficials and administrative secretaries attended.

The function was attended besides others by senators, former provincial ministers, ex parliamentarians, former LG representatives, civil officers, lawyers, academicians, political workers and leaders, members from civil society, politicians and elites of the city in large number and representatives of all mainstream political parties.

After taking oath, the newly appointed Caretaker Chief Minister intermingled with people gathered in Governor House to congratulate him for becoming the caretaker Chief Minister KP.

On Friday last, former Chief Minister KP Amir Haider Khan Hoti and opposition leader Akram Durrani after mutual consensus had nominated Justice (Retd) Tariq Pervez as Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa.

According to official sources, consensus has also been made over the names for caretaker cabinet and would take oath in few days.

On Tuesday, the Khyber Pakthunkhwa Governor, Engr Shaukatullah Khan has dissolved the provincial assembly on the advice of Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti after completion of its parliamentary tenure.

The Chief Secretary Khyber Pakthunkhwa had also issued notification regarding dissolution of 24 members provincial cabinet and the Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti and all the ministers ceased to hold their offices.

Justice (Retd) Tariq Pervez is the fifth caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakthunkhwa as prior to him this prestigious office was held by Lt Gen (Retd) Fazl e Haq in 1988, Mufti Abbas in 1993, Raja Sikandar Zaman in 1997 and Engr Shamsul Mulk in 2007.

All the mainstream political parties have welcomed the appointment of Justice Tariq Pervez as caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa and expressed optimism that he would utilize all his experience and energies for providing congenial atmosphere for holding free, fair and transparent elections besides working for welfare of people.

PPP leader and former Senior Minister, Rahimdad Khan, PML-Q General Secretary Intikhab Khan Chamkani and ANP leader and former Environment Minister Wajid Ali Khan have also welcomed the appointment of Justice Tariq Pervez.
