ISLAMABAD: The government has planned to spend Rs2950 million to execute ten professional and technical training programmes during this fiscal year.
The estimated cost of these programmes is 19,807 million as around Rs2947 million were spent during last year and more funds are allocated with the sole purpose to improve technical skills, especially of the youth.
A senior official while enumerating project-wise allocation details said, the major programmes are President and Prime Minister Special Initiatives for Funni Maharat and Hunarmand Programs for which Rs300 million have been earmarked.
The allocation for other programmes is Construction of Hostel Building Islamabad (NTB) Rs69 million, President Programme for Care of Highly Qualified Overseas Pakistanis (NTP) Rs24 million, Establishment and Operation of Basic Education Community Schools (NEF) Rs1,000 million, Improving Human Development Indicators (NCHD) Rs1,462 million, Educational Leadership and Institutional Management Rs13 million, Financial Management & Good Governance (FMGG) Rs12 million, Setting up Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Training Lab Rs58.5 million, Establishment of Project Monitoring Cell Rs7.2 million and Rs5 million are earmarked for Training Programme on use of Data for Educational Planning & Management using Computer Software.
Elaborating further, he said the two major training programmes under President and Prime Minister's directives along with some other major initiatives taken by National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) are designed to improve quality of vocational and technical training for young men and women throughout the country.
He said the programme's target is to train in total 212,621 unemployed persons (47,765 under Funni Maharat Programme and 164,856 persons under Hunarmand Pakistan Programme).
The official said so far, 134,368 youth have received vocational and technical training whereas 25,000 people are to be trained this year. A stipend of Rs2,000 per month is paid to the participants.
Under Presidential directive, NAVTTC is establishing 130 new vocational training centers and institutes in 79 tehsils of Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Balochistan, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan where no such institute exists, he said and added the programme costs Rs1.2 billion under which 47,765 trainees will be trained in 2.5 years. Under this program 30,275 youth have been trained while 1,590 are under training.
He said NAVTTC in the light of Prime Minister's directions has taken an initiative of offering short-term skill development programmes of mostly up to six months duration courses in collaboration with public and private sector training institutes.
It covers four priority sectors including construction, agriculture (dairy & livestock), IT & Telecommunication and skills for women.The other sectors include hospitality, light engineering, paramedics, services, traditional trades (cottage crafts etc.) and textile.The official said so far 100,338 youth have been trained and 31,865 are under training.
Moreover, the official said to create missing link between industry and training providers, NAVTTC has established sector-specific Industry Advisory Groups (IAGs) to provide industry intelligence to Technical Education and Vocational Training (TVET) policy makers and training providers in the design of skill standards and curricula.
NAVTTC has also developed online monitoring system to maintain database of trainees and record of its funded projects.
