ISLAMABAD: An independent think tank in Islamabad on Wednesday issued a security report stating that the intensity in militant attacks has significantly fallen down in March 2020.

Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) has stated in its monthly security report that the number of casualties in militant activities decreased by 64 percent and injuries decreased by 15 percent compared with February 2020, across the country.

PICSS has observed a total nine militant attacks during March 2020, in which eight people were killed including five security forces personnel and three civilians. While total 24 people got injured including nine security forces personnel and 15 civilians. Majority of attacks were done through Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Majority of the militant attacks in March 2020 was observed in Balochistan where two militant attacks each in District Panjgur and Kech while one IED blast was recorded in District Qila-Abdullah. Two security forces personnel and three civilians lost their lives, while six security forces personnel and seven civilians got injured.

Tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (former FATA) witnessed the second-highest number of violent militant activities, where four militant attacks were observed during the last month, with two casualties of security forces personnel, while the security forces personnel and one civilian got injured.

A single target killing incident took place in Swat, KPK where some security force personnel died. There was a single IED attack in the province of Panjab, where and IED was placed in a motorbike at Saddar Bazar Rawalpindi, no loss of life was reported, but seven civilians injured. No suicide attack was recorded last month.

Meanwhile, Pakistani security forces conducted 3 actions against militants in Khyber Pakhtunekhwa in which 10 militants were killed and five security forces personal lost their lives.
