The outbreak of coronavirus pandemic has brought the world to a standstill, as countries around the globe are scratching their heads to find a solution to this health crisis, which has not only killed thousands of persons but has brought entire countries into lockdowns.

However, as the saying goes every cloud has a silver lining, it may be hard for many to fathom that the ongoing pandemic despite raging havoc everywhere has an aspect of good news as well, after the air pollution in various countries has started to decline rapidly.

Air pollution is diminishing as people around the planet reduce shipments and fuel consumption rates after countries are compelled to go into lockdown disrupting supply chains in the process.

As per Daily Mail, the impact has been especially visible in China, Italy, and Spain, the three countries have been the worst hit by the coronavirus has seen a rapid decrease in the amount of nitrogen dioxide in the air.

The report states that the lockdown that has been placed in these three countries due to COVID-19, has left people contained to their homes, and with businesses shut and no traffic on the road, that has led to the reduction of nitrogen dioxide in the air.

NASA has reported in its report that the amount of nitrogen dioxide in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the pandemic has dropped dramatically. This gas is produced in the air after the exhaustion by vehicles, factories, and thermal power plants, which have shut down due to the coronavirus.

“This is the first time I have seen such a dramatic drop-off over such a wide area for a specific event,” said Fei Liu, an air quality researcher at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Centre, while noting the change in China.
