The rise of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 has brought serious repercussions to the global economy, with businesses paying the biggest price as countries implement quarantine measures to curb the deadly epidemic.

Search giant Google too has not been immune to the virus attack, as the Cupertino based techie is now advising all its employees working in North America to work from home, as the number of coronavirus cases rises in the region.

As per Business Insider, Google sent out a memo to its employees informing them that it was changing its policies and recommend all workers who are able to work remotely do so until at least April 10. It may be mentioned here, that the majority of Google employees i.e. over 100,000 works in North America.

Google's decision comes as the number of coronavirus cases in the United States reaches 1,000. Cases of the mysterious virus have been reported in 37 US states and the District of Columbia, the virus has claimed the lives of 31 persons so far.

Earlier, Google told its employees working in the Seattle area to work remotely if they can. The search engine has already closed all its offices in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and has restricted business travel to China and Hong Kong.

The mysterious virus has wreaked havoc in the global technology industry; as many companies have shut factories and banned business-related travel with events like Facebook's F8, the Geneva Motor Show called off due to the outbreak.
