CJP welcomes Morocco judges

cjp moroccoISLAMABAD: A delegation headed by Mustapha Fares, First President of the Court of Cassation, Kingdom of Morocco/Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Morocco on Wednesday called on Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry here at Supreme Court building.

The delegation also included Brahim Zaim, President of Chamber at the Court of Cassation, Ahmed Benzakour, President of Chamber at the Court of Cassation, Abderrahmane Mesbahi El Aouame, President of Chamber at the Court of Cassation and Mohammad Rida EL FASSI, Ambassador of Kingdom of Morocco in Pakistan.

Welcoming the delegation, the CJP said it was an honour to receive such a high level judicial delegation from Morocco. Exchange of delegations is always healthy and a good tradition to take advantages from each other's experience and knowledge, he said and added that since both countries were Muslim where Islamic laws are enforced, therefore, it is a good opportunity to share some experiences and reforms.

The Chief Justice of Morocco reciprocated the sentiments and explained his judicial system and informed about Supreme Court and other subordinate courts. He also invited the CJP to visit Morocco. The Chief Justice accepted his invitation and stated that he would be visiting Morocco shortly.

The CJP told the delegation about judicial system of Pakistan and judicial commission. He further told that laws in Pakistan were on common law pattern, derived from the Constitution and rules were Islamized and no law was against the basic Injunctions of Islam.

Federal Shariat Court is also functioning to examine and determine as to whether or not a certain provision of law is repugnant to the Injunctions of Islam and appeal against the decision of Federal Shariat Court is heard by Shariat Appellate Bench of Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Furthermore, the Council of Islamic Ideology advises the legislature whether or not a certain law is repugnant to Islamic Injunctions. The Chief Justice of Pakistan also informed the delegation that the system of administration of justice should be effective as the prime purpose of judiciary is to redress the grievances of public at large and to dispense justice to them and provide them easy access.

The Chief Justice of Morocco extended his thanks to Chief Justice of Pakistan for care and hospitality.
