UAE goes green with its world’s largest solar power plant

The world is excelling in generating more renewable and sustainable energy and this time the United Arab Emirates has developed the world’s largest individual solar power plant.

The Abu Dhabi Power Corporation along with a consortium of Japan’s Marubeni Corp and China’s Jinko Solar Holding recently set up a world record by turning on the world’s largest individual solar power project, named ‘Noor Abu Dhabi’ with 1.18 gigawatts (1,177 megawatts) of peak capacity.

As per Engadget, Noor Abu Dhabi incorporates 3.2 million solar panels, which are enough to power for 90,000 people, while also simultaneously reducing carbon dioxide emissions by one million metric tons – equivalent of pulling 200,000 cars off the roads.

“Noor Abu Dhabi will generate renewable energy and will enable us to improve the use of our natural resources,” said Emirate Water and Electricity Company CEO, Othman Jumaa Al Ali, as per Forbes.

“The fact that a project of such scale has been successfully completed on time and on budget highlights our commitment to ensuring sustainable energy for the future and it is a true testament of the Emirate’s delivery capabilities to execute world-class energy projects,” he continued.
