imageISLAMABAD: National Highway Authority to establish emergency response centres on the national highways to provide first aid facilities.

An official of NHA told Friday that in first stage, Emergency Response Centers are being established on National Highways passing through far flung areas of Baluchistan, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and south Punjab. The highways where emergency response centres are being set up include Karachi-Chaman Highway also known as RCD Highway (N-25), Hushab-Surab Highway (N-85), Rawalpindi-Kohat Highway (N-80) and Grand Trunk Highway (N-5) and Indus Highway (N-55).

He said each Emergency Response Centre will comprise Ambulance, Recovery Vehicles and Mobile Workshops.

In 2nd stage, these facilities will be expanded to all network of National Highways in the entire country while keeping in view the requirements and availability of funds as well.

He said services of ambulance will also be started in coordination with Punjab Rescue 1122 department.

He said instructions to the concerned Regional General Managers NHA have been issued from HQ to identify the critical locations for establishment of Emergency Response Centers on most urgent basis.
