Rwanda's economy to recover this year, more spending seen

  • Tushabe also said Rwanda plans to increase spending in the fiscal year starting July 1 by 10%, to 3.807 trillion Rwandan francs ($3.82 billion). Donors will fund 16% of the budget, with the rest coming from tax revenues and debt, he said.
  • The East African nation's debt level climbed by 13% last year due to borrowing aimed at combating COVID-19, he said.

Ghana April consumer price inflation 8.5pc year-on-year in April

  • The drop puts the rate within the Bank of Ghana's targeted band of 8% plus or minus 2 percentage points for the first time since January.
  • The central bank, which kept it's prime interest rate unchanged at 14.5%, said in March that it expected headline inflation in the gold-, cocoa-, and oil-producing country to return to the target band in the second quarter of 2021.
