In his address, the Prime Minister congratulated Dr. Sania Nishtar and her entire Ehsaas team, after the World Bank recently acknowledged the Ehsaas program as the fourth largest social protection intervention globally in terms of the number of people covered during the COVID-19 pandemic.
World Bank has recognized Pakistan’s government Ehsaas Emergency Cash program among the top four social protection interventions globally in terms of number of people covered.
“Opening biometric ATMs and bank branches for the Ehsaas beneficiaries would be a major feature of the new Ehsaas digital payment system”, she said while talking to a private news channel.
Nishtar said that the program has been developed on digital lines using information technology which provides immediate health care to deserving patients admitted in the hospital.
The SAPM outlined the provision of subsidies for Ehsaas beneficiaries through a chain of Utility Stores outlets across Pakistan and local grocery stores.
He was chairing a high-level meeting to review availability of daily use items and their prices during the holy month of Ramazan, PM office media wing in a press release said.
Ehsaas has begun the process of enrolling new beneficiaries, which have been identified on the basis of the 2021 Ehsaas survey which is now 81% complete, she said.
The Governance Observatory was established in June 2020 to monitor adherence to the Ehsaas Governance and Integrity Policy, which was approved by the cabinet in November 2019.
The cost of the diet study conducted in Pakistan indicates that a large portion (66%) of the population is not able to afford the cheapest possible nutritious diet.
